Now that it’s finally here, Chris Pratt’s voice as Mario in Illumination’s Super Mario Bros. Movie has been anxiously anticipated by Nintendo fans for a little more than a year. We now get the opportunity to hear Pratt’s Mario and witness what the Minions movie studio can do with the mushroom kingdom thanks to Nintendo and Illumination’s recently released first trailer. Is the movie going to be a “wahoo!” or a “ohhh noooo?” We know they have experience with cute/funny tiny guys, and everyone in the Mario universe is a cute/funny little guy to some level.
Similar to when the first trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie was released (though most people sided with the “too many teeth” camp in that debate, prompting a significant and expensive redo on the finished footage), that is a very personal choice that each individual will have to make for themselves. Though they’ve been confident for a long time that it won’t be as horrible as Sonic’s teeth, the movie’s production crew has continuously guaranteed that Pratt’s Mario voice will not only be good but that everyone will stop questioning the decision to hire him once they hear what he’s doing.
On April 7, 2023, the Super Mario movie will be made available in America. Along with Pratt, it also features Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Jack Black as Bowser. It was directed by the Teen Titans Go! creators Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic.
