Tulsi Gabbard, a former representative from Hawaii, declared she was leaving the Democratic Party and urged other “common sense independent-minded Democrats” to do the same. She called the party an “elitist cabal of warmongers.”
“I can no longer support the Democratic Party of today, which has been taken over by an elitist cabal of warmongers motivated by cowardly weakness, who actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms, demonize the police and protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans, believe in open borders, and weaponize the national security state to target white supremacists,” she said.
From 2013 to 2021, Gabbard served as the Democratic representative representing Hawaii’s 2nd Congressional District. In 2020, she made an unsuccessful run for the Democratic Party’s presidential nomination. She stated in a video uploaded on Twitter on Tuesday that the party she is leaving represents the “powerful elite,” not the general public.
“If the route taken by the so-called woke Democratic Party ideologues is too much for you to bear. I’d like you to come along “She spoke.
The Tulsi Gabbard Show, a new podcast series on YouTube, was also launched at the same time as Gabbard’s announcement. The first episode is a 28-minute one titled “Why I’m Leaving the Democratic Party,” in which she discusses how she originally became a member of the party as a young adult after being “inspired by Democrats who stood up against the war in Vietnam” and others who stood up for plantation workers in Hawaii.
She cited her concern that “President Biden and Democratic Party elites have pushed us to the brink of nuclear war, potentially beginning World War III and destroying the world as we know it” as one of the main reasons her 20 years as a member of the Democratic Party will come to an end.
Gabbard claimed that the impending “nuclear holocaust” was another factor in her decision to enter the 2020 presidential race.
“Because I was aware that this was the direction we were going in, I ran for president in 2020. The indicators were all there. For those of you who may have attended a town hall or who watched, I brought up this problem every single day during the campaign, and I’m sure you observed that the politicians and the media simply disregarded it “She spoke.
Throughout the program and in her announcement, Gabbard emphasized a number of conventionally conservative talking points, reiterating right-wing buzzwords like “weakness” and “elites,” and evoking language that senior GOP figures have frequently used.
She said that Democrats had transformed American democracy into “a banana republic”—a label frequently used by Republican leaders, particularly in reference to the FBI’s August raid on the Mar-a-Lago estate of former President Trump.
“The raid on MAL is again another step in the weaponization of government agencies against the political rivals of the Regime, while individuals like Hunter Biden receive preferential treatment. Now that extra 87k IRS agents have been hired, how will the Regime use them against its enemies? the Banana Republic “Following the raid, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis wrote.
Gabbard has long been a contributor to Fox News; in August, she served as a guest host on “Tucker Carlson Tonight” in the wake of the FBI raid on Mar-a-Lago.
There is no disputing that the extraordinary raid on Donald Trump’s Palm Beach property earlier this week has put our nation on a hazardous new track, and there is no turning back, she stated on the show.
Following her declaration, Republican and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich praised Gabbard on “Fox & Friends,” calling her an “independent maverick” and speculating that other Democrats may follow her lead in leaving the party.
